YouTube now makes over $3M per hour from ads

YouTube would probably not be on your list if you anticipate which companies will grow in the “new normal” era because conventional thinking and early data predicted that global lockdowns would substantially hit online advertising.

YouTube generated $19.77 billion in ad income in 2020, a 30.5% increase over the previous year. Even YouTube’s most fervent commercial believers may not have predicted its growth in 2021.

In the second quarter of 2021, YouTube generated $7.002 billion in advertising revenue, nearly $77 million a day, or $3.2 million per hour. YouTube’s ad revenue was up by 83.7% over the same period in 2020 ($3.812 billion).

At the beginning of this year, MBW forecasted YouTube’s annual advertising income would surpass $29 billion.

According to Alphabet, that seems possible because the platform generated $13.007 billion in ad revenue from January to June. That’s roughly double what YouTube made in the same period last year ($7.850 billion).

Remember, these figures don’t reflect monthly subscription earnings from subscribers who pay for YouTube Music and YouTube Premium. YouTube Music owned 8% of the global music subscription market at the end of this Q1. With 487 million global music users, YouTube has around 39 million subscribers.
